The Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan Prof Idowu Olayinka, has replied the Ultimatum given to him by the National Association of Nigerian Students stating that it is an insult on University of Ibadan Students and Management.
Olayinka Told Education Herald that the Ultimatum is dead on arrival “The Ultimatum is dead on arrival, I already told The NANS state Chairman yesterday, we cannot sit down and discuss with them on a roundtable because of a threat”
Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor said University of Ibadan has its own internal mechanism to resolve all issues amicably “We have our own internal mechanism, some persons cannot just come from anywhere and start commanding us, it is not done, I didn’t even suspend the Union, the Senate did”.
Olayinka suggested that the possibility of the Union returning is not certain “The Students Union returning is not what I will talk about when we get to the bridge we will cross it”
The National Association of Nigerian Students through the Oyo State Chairman, Teslim Abiola had earlier given a seven-days Ultimatum to the Vice Chancellor to Dialogue with them on the issue of the suspended Students’ Union of the Varsity, a call that has now been described as an empty threat by the University’s Vice Chancellor.
