JAC strike : UNN SSANU Chairman arrested by SARS officials

The ongoing Nationwide strike by Non Academic workers in Nigerian Varsities took a new turn as men of The Special Anti Robbery squad reportedly arrested the Chairman of the University branch of SSANU, Paul Erua.

it was gathered that the official was arrested for his involvement in the Ongoing industrial action by the University workers.

An official of SSANU in the University Comrade Akata said the officials were arrested on the orders of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, NSUKKA, Prof Ozumba Benjamin.

Speaking to EDUCATION HERALD the Treasurer of SSANU in the University revealed that the Vice Chancellor of the University had written a letter to the Area Commander of the University of Nigeria and the Commissioner of Police alleging that the Chairman and members of SSANU vandalized properties in the University “The Vice Chancellor wrote the Area Command and alleged that we destroyed properties and that led to the arrest of Our Chairman but upon getting to the University, there was no proof of any destruction by our members”.
Comrade Akata also said the Chairman house was burgled by the officials of SARS from the Commissioner of Police Office “The Chairman’s house was burgled while his family was teargassed, he was not even allowed to change his clothing as he was arrested in his pyjamas before been whisked away”

As at the time of this report, National President of SSANU Comrade Samson Ugwoke visited the University and the arrested Chairman has been released. This was confirmed by the SSANU Public Relations Officer Abdussobur Salaam, the SSANU spokesperson said “As at some minutes past 4PM, the arrested Chairman has been released by the Nigerian Police”.

Attempts to reach the chief Security officer of the University proved abortive as at the time of this report.
